Bass Pro Playing Hard To Get

As reported recently in the Fresno Bee, outdoor sporting goods mega-store Bass Pro announced they are building a store in Sacramento. The Fresno County Economic Development Corp. is disappointed. They are hoping to get Bass Pro as an anchor tenant in the South Stadium renovation project.

Don’t you get it FCEDC? Bass Pro doesn't want you and we (most Fresnans) don't want Bass Pro, Downtown. Can’t you guys take a hint? Stop calling them, you're creeping them out. Bass Pro is going to start laughing at us with their friends Walmart.

Just move on and start working on getting a HIP business downtown. Something that won't put a bunch of local sporting goods stores out of business.

The popular idea is a House Of Blues. That would be perfect, smack dab on Kern Street, in the mall. You could gaze at the HOB sign between batters at a Grizzlies game, or go back and forth from Fagan's or whatever new bar that might pop up - synergy.

Here's a new idea: A roller rink. It could be the new home of the Smog City Roller Girls.

Do any Fresnan's (other than Derek Snyder)remember the record shop in the Opus1 shopping center at Palm and Bullard? Derek Snyder and I use to stop there on the way home from Bullard High and gaze through the records - namely Van Halen ones.
